speaks at the World Habitat Day function
at Imphal (Manipur)
At the
invitation from the Town and Country Planning
Departement, Govt. of Manipur, Prof. P.K.
Sarkar, Hony. Secy., IUT, participated as
a key speaker in the World Habitat Day on
5th, Oct, 2009,organized by the Department
at Imphal and delivered a lecture on the
theme "A System Approach to Transport
Planning- A Future Vision”
IUT extends support
to Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation
in sensitizing different stake holders of
the city on the Visakhaptnam Unified Metropolis
Transport Authority (VUMTA) being set up
The Greater Visakhapatnam
Municipal Corporation(GVMC) is planning
to constitute an apex body i.e. Visakhaptnam
Unified Metropolis Transport Authority
(VUMTA)at the city level to take decisions,
suggestions and improvements in the city
with participation of different stake
holders both Government and Non-Government
organsiations. With a view to creating
awareness amongst the different stake
holders about the VUMTA, the GVMC conducted
a one day workshop on 8th October, 2009
at Visakhapatnam. The assistance
of IUT was requested for by the GVMC to
sensitise the stakeholders on the proposed
UMTA to be set up. In response to
the request, IUT provided a team of resource
persons consisting of Shri O.P. Agarwal,
Vice President, IUT and Managing Director,
UMTC, Shri B.I. Singal, Director General
of IUT and Dr. S.Padam, Professor of Management
and Transport Studies to speak at the
workshop on various aspects of the UMTA
that is proposed to set up. The
workshop was very well attended by different
stakeholders including the Mayor, MLAs
both from the ruling party and the opposition
party, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner,
Vice Chairman, Visakhapatnam Urban Development
Authority, Municipal Commissioner, Addl.
Municipal Commissioner, Corporators, representatives
from the Press, Academic Institutions
and other officials.
