Shri Sudesh Kumar

Shri Sudesh Kumar
Vice President, IUT and Retired Member (Electrical), Railway Board,

Shri Sudesh Kumarserved in theIndian Railways for 37 years, in different parts of the country in various capacities, including Divisional Railway Manager, General Manager and superannuated at the apex level of Member Electrical Railway Board and Secretary to the Government of India. His vast experience in freight and passenger transport covers the urban transport domain, including metros and suburban rail.

Post superannuation in 2011, he has continued to contribute from his experience and specialization, as advisor on several urban projects in India, including efficient city-buses, BRTS, metros, improving air quality, and in externally aided sustainable urban transport and environment improvement projects.

He has also led Mott MacDonald’s teams on climate resilience projects in Indian cities as part of FCDO (UK Government) collaboration with Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA).


Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Sarkar

Professor P K Sarkar post graduated in Town Planning with specialization in Traffic and Transportation Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture in 1977. Presently he is the convenor of the Intelligent Transport System Committee as well as active member of the General Standards and Specifications Committee of the Indian Road Congress. He is presently serving as Technical Expert Committee in National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation as well as contributing as an important member in the Bureau of Indian Standards, and International Organisation for Standardization in the Intelligent Transport System Committee. He is also associated with the NATPAC of Kerala Government as a Research Council Member.


Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Verma

Hony. Secretary, IUT and Professor of Transportation Systems Engg., Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore

Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Vermais the Convenor of “IISc Sustainable Transportation Lab. (IST Lab.)”. He is Ph.D. from IIT Bombay. Further, he was a Visiting Professor at ITMO University, Saint Petersberg, Russia during 2016 and a Visiting Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia during 2019. Before joining IISc, he has served in IIT Guwahati, and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). He has authored more than 212 research publications, including more than 85 journal publications, in the area of sustainable transportation.


Prof. R. Thanasekaran

Prof. R. Thanasekaran,32+8 years experience in State Transport Undertakings including 5 years at Central Institute of Road Transport, Pune (Govt. of India) as its Teaching Faculty and 7 years at Institute of Road Transport, Chennai (Govt. of Tamilnadu) as its General Manager (Research & Training). 6 years at Anand Institute Higher Technology (Anna University) as its Professor, Mechanical Engineering and 2 years at PCRA, Chennai as its Consultant/ Training Faculty. Attended 3 Training related programmes by Govt. of India and Latest bus maintenance (BS4, BS6 & Electric Bus) at Ashok Leyland Service Training Ennore, Chennai. Conducted 48special training programmes on “Urban Transport Planning and Traffic Management” and ‘Fleeth Maintenance’ (each 3 days duration) for Municipal Commissioners, Municipal Engineers and Town Planning Officers of Tamilnadu State as its Programme Director under Capacity Building Programme.



Shri Ramesh Raina

Shri Ramesh Raina, FIE is Civil Engineering Graduate of 1981 from MNIT Allahabad and belongs to Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE). Currently he is working as Advisor (Projects), IIT Jammu and is member of Dispute Resolution Board (DRB) of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Prior to working as Advisor to IIT Jammu he has worked as Chief Engineer, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Chief Engineer in Military Engineer Services. He has worked in different capacities in major and strategic Defence Infrastructure and Management Projects for which he has received Engineer-in-Chief’s, Army Headquarters, Commendation Card for best Performance.



Shri Jaideep

Acting Director General, IUT and OSD (UT) and Ex-officio Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India

Shri Jaideep belongs to Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) 1989 Batch. Currently, he is working as Officer on Special Duty (Urban Transport) & Ex –officio Joint Secretary, M/o Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) since November, 2019. Prior to joining the MoHUA, he has worked on several important assignments in Indian Railways related with train operations, maintenance of rolling stock & traction distribution systems, rolling stock manufacturing, IT system etc. He also worked as Executive Director and Director in Ministry of Railways dealing with policy related matter. He is a postgraduate from IIT Delhi and also did his LL.B from University of Delhi. He is credited with publication of papers on train sets for long distance train operation on Indian Railway network and on the choice of traction system used in Metro.


Shri Sumit Chatterjee

Retired as Deputy Secretary from Government of India 31.01.2012. Has served 38 years in Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Joined IUT as Sr. Training Coordinator on 2.11.2012
